Promoting sustainable development in vocational education and training is one of OEP’s key focus areas. The VET4SDG program, implemented in 2020–2021 and 2021–2022, was an expert-level program for Finnish TVET teachers and managers, supporting the integration of sustainable development goals (SDGs) into the everyday work of TVET institutions. The program focused on sharing good practices for achieving SDGs and giving Finnish TVET teachers and managers concrete tools for analyzing and measuring the extent to which SDGs have been met in their sector or institution.
The VET4SDG program was funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education.
CORE CONTENTS OF THE PROGRAM
- Introduction to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and how they relate to vocational education and training, on a system level and in practice.
- Surveying the thoughts of different stakeholders to understand how well the TVET institution is progressing with the SDGs.
- Gathering and analyzing survey results and sharing the insights with others.
- Collecting and sharing examples of successful practices related to SDGs in the TVET institution.
- Creating a vision map for the future, outlining plans for promoting sustainable development goals in the TVET institution.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
